SCHOLARSHIP Application

Applications due March 21, 2026

The Sedalia Symphony Society is proud to announce two scholarships of $1000 each to be awarded to outstanding high school instrumentalists in the Sedalia area.  Please note this is a string, woodwind, brass, or percussion scholarship.  Any student who is eligible is encouraged to audition for a scholarship.

The students with the top two scores will perform, with appropriate accompaniment, at the final Sedalia Symphony concert of the season, which is 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Smith-Cotton High School Heckart Performing Arts Center.

Winners will be required to attend the reception following the concert.

TO BE ELIGIBLE:

  1. You must have a three-point grade average on a four-point scale (B average) or its equivalent.
  2. You must presently be enrolled and performing in a school ensemble (orchestra or band).
  3. You must be recommended by your ensemble director.
  4. You must be graduating in 2026.
  5. You must send a statement of character and verification of grade point average from a Counselor or principal at your present school.
  6. You must live within a 30-mile radius of Sedalia.
  7. You must be present in person to perform your solo on the date of the audition listed below.

AUDITION:  SATURDAY, MARCH 28, 2026, AT 9:00 A.M.

  1. You must prepare and perform an appropriate solo.  Contest pieces are acceptable. Please bring three copies of your music for the judges.
  2. You must furnish your own accompanist.
  3. The Audition Committee reserves the right to withhold the scholarship if it believes none of the applicants are of sufficient proficiency.

WHEN IT IS TIME TO RECEIVE YOUR AWARD (Typically August and January):

  1. You must furnish to the Sedalia Symphony Society (loribroyles1966@gmail.com) documentation from the college or university of your choice stating that you are officially accepted and enrolled in a large ensemble. 
  2. A check in the amount of $500 per semester will be made out to you to be spent on your education.
  3. You must participate in a college or university orchestra or band each semester.

Should more than one applicant from the same school wish to apply, they are welcome to do so.  Each applicant should include their biography and a photo with the application, which may be emailed to Lori Broyles at loribroyles1966@gmail.com or mailed to Lori Broyles at 2530 James Ln, Sedalia, MO 65301.
